For general contractors and remodelers
Measure Once: Floor Plans and Takeoffs for Contractors
vPlan AR gives general contractors and remodelers an as-built floor plan from a single site walk: scan with an iPhone Pro or iPad Pro, export DXF for your designer or drafter, and generate material takeoffs and repair estimates priced from your own rate card.
Why general contractors and remodelers switch to LiDAR floor plans
Extra measure-up visits
Going back to site because a dimension is missing costs a half-day. A full scan captures every wall, opening and room in one pass.
Hand sketches that don’t close
Corner errors, wall offsets and transposed numbers on paper sketches become rework later. Scanned plans are geometrically consistent.
Takeoffs done by hand
Calculating floor area, wall area and trim lengths manually is slow. vPlan AR derives them from the scan.
How it works
Scan at the site walk
Capture the existing space room by room, including multiple levels, while you walk the job with the client.
Clean up on the web
Open the project in the browser editor to correct walls, add labels, doors, windows and furniture, and check dimensions on a large screen.
Hand off DXF or PDF
Export DXF with walls, openings, labels and dimensions on separate layers for AutoCAD or DraftSight, or a dimensioned PDF for the client.
Price the work
Mark affected materials per room and export a line-item estimate from your rate card as PDF or CSV.
What you can deliver
As-built DXF
Pro+Layered CAD file ready for your designer, drafter or engineer.
Dimensioned PDF plan
All plansTrue-scale plan sheet with room sizes, ceiling heights, exterior dimensions and door and window sizes (one level, watermarked on Free; every level in one set on Pro).
Material takeoff & estimate
Pro+Floor area, wall area and perimeter quantities with your unit prices and contingency.
3D model (GLB, USDZ, OBJ)
Pro+Export the plan as a 3D model, with walls cut at doors and windows, for visualization, a client walkthrough in AR on an iPhone, or downstream modeling tools.
Which plan do general contractors and remodelers need?
Most contractors start on Pro ($19/month) for unlimited projects, DXF and estimates. Companies with estimators and project managers sharing projects choose Business ($39/month). Compare plans.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get an as-built floor plan from an iPhone scan?
Yes. vPlan AR scans existing rooms with the LiDAR sensor on iPhone 12 Pro and newer Pro models or iPad Pro, and exports the as-built as a layered DXF or dimensioned PDF. For permit drawings, confirm your jurisdiction’s requirements; many accept a scaled as-built plan prepared from a scan.
What CAD programs open vPlan AR DXF files?
Any DXF-compatible program, including AutoCAD, DraftSight and most CAD and estimating tools. Walls, doors, windows, room labels and dimensions are on separate layers.
Can I edit the scan on my computer?
Yes. Scans sync to your account on Pro and Business plans. Sign in at vplan.ai to open the project in the web editor, then adjust walls, openings, labels and dimensions.
Does vPlan AR replace a surveyor?
No. LiDAR scans are typically accurate within 1–2 cm per room dimension — excellent for remodeling, estimating and as-builts — but boundary, structural or legal surveys still require a licensed professional.
