Measure-Ups and Flooring Takeoffs from a Scan
vPlan AR turns a flooring measure-up into one walk through the house with an iPhone Pro or iPad Pro: every room's real outline, the square footage with waste for the pattern, and the boxes to order per room, on a plan you can quote and install from.
Why flooring installers and retailers switch to LiDAR floor plans
Measure-ups take an hour
A tape, a pad and a sketch of every room, closet and hallway, then the arithmetic back at the shop. A scan captures the rooms as you walk them.
Short orders stop the job
A missed closet or a wrong room size means a second trip to the supplier and a crew waiting. Over-ordering eats the margin instead.
Quotes that don't match the install
When the sketch is off, the quote is too. Quantities from the measured plan hold up when the crew arrives.
How it works
Scan at the measure-up
Walk each room with the customer. Closets, hallways and stairs come out on the plan with their real shape, not rounded-off rectangles.
Pick the flooring per room
Assign the floor finish to each room, with its pattern (straight, diagonal, herringbone or chevron) and, if you like, the coverage of one box.
Get the takeoff
vPlan AR adds the waste for the pattern, or your own allowance, takes off stair openings, and gives the square footage and boxes for each finish and room.
Quote and hand off
Price it from your rate card, send the customer a dimensioned PDF or a view-only link, and give the crew the same plan.

Which plan do flooring installers and retailers need?
Installers and small retailers start on Pro ($19/month) for unlimited projects, takeoffs and estimates. Stores with several estimators sharing projects, or that want the REST API to send measurements to their own system, choose Business ($39/month). Compare plans.
Connect the software you already use
Plans can flow into your flooring estimating and business software through the vPlan AR API and webhooks on Business, or as open files (PDF, DXF, IFC, CSV, Excel). See integrations or ask your software vendor.
Sample files for flooring installers and retailers

Frequently asked questions
Is a LiDAR scan accurate enough to order flooring?
Room dimensions are typically within 1–2 cm (under an inch) per room dimension, and the waste allowance covers the cuts, so it is accurate enough to order from. Check critical points like transitions and thresholds on site, as you would with a tape.
Does the takeoff include waste?
Yes. It adds 7% for straight lays, 15% for diagonal and 20% for herringbone or chevron, or the allowance you set on the finish.
Can I order by the box?
Yes. Enter what one box covers on the finish and the takeoff rounds each order up to whole boxes.
What if the customer doesn't have a LiDAR iPhone?
You do the scan, on your own iPhone Pro or iPad Pro. Without one, you can draw the rooms in the web editor from your tape measurements and get the same takeoff.
Guides for flooring installers and retailers
- How to Work Out Flooring, Paint and Baseboard Quantities from a Floor PlanFlooring needs waste for its pattern, paint needs the doors and windows taken off each wall, and baseboard stops at every doorway. Here is how to work out all three from a floor plan, by hand and in vPlan AR.
