For painting contractors
Wall Areas and Paint Estimates from a Scan
vPlan AR measures every wall and ceiling of a house from one walk-through with an iPhone Pro or iPad Pro, takes off the real doors and windows, and gives the gallons per colour and a priced estimate, so painting quotes are fast and consistent.
Why painting contractors switch to LiDAR floor plans
Measuring every room by hand
A whole-house interior means dozens of walls, each with doors and windows to take off. A scan measures them as you walk through.
Gallons from guesswork
Rounding wall areas or ignoring openings leaves you short on site or with cans left over. The takeoff works from each wall face.
Colour decisions by room
Clients choose an accent wall here and a different ceiling there. Tracking that on paper invites mistakes on the day.
How it works
Scan the house
Walk each room with a LiDAR iPhone or iPad. Ceiling heights, doors and windows come with the plan.
Assign the colours
Set a paint for each room's walls, or for a single wall face, and a ceiling finish, in the web editor.
Get gallons per colour
vPlan AR measures each wall face inside the room, takes off the openings, and works out gallons per paint for your coats and coverage.
Price and present
Price the job from your own rate card, show the client the colours in 3D, and send the estimate as PDF or Excel.

Which plan do painting contractors need?
Owner-operators start on Pro ($19/month) for unlimited projects, takeoffs and estimates. Companies with several estimators sharing projects, or that want the REST API and webhooks for their own software, choose Business ($39/month). Compare plans.
Connect the software you already use
Plans can flow into your painting estimating and job management software through the vPlan AR API and webhooks on Business, or as open files (PDF, DXF, IFC, CSV, Excel). See integrations or ask your software vendor.

Frequently asked questions
Does vPlan AR subtract doors and windows from wall area?
Yes. It measures each wall face on the inside of the room and takes off the doors, windows and cased openings actually on the plan, not a standard allowance.
Can different walls have different colours?
Yes. Set a paint for a room's walls, then change a single wall face for an accent wall. The takeoff gives gallons for each paint.
Can I change the coats and coverage?
Yes. The takeoff uses 2 coats at 350 sq ft per gallon by default; change them to match the paint and the surface.
Does it handle exterior painting?
Not yet. The scan measures interior rooms. Exterior elevations are planned for a future release.
Guides for painting contractors
- How to Work Out Flooring, Paint and Baseboard Quantities from a Floor PlanFlooring needs waste for its pattern, paint needs the doors and windows taken off each wall, and baseboard stops at every doorway. Here is how to work out all three from a floor plan, by hand and in vPlan AR.
- How to Present Interior Design Options to Clients and Get Sign-Off Room by RoomClients decide faster when every room shows its finishes, its board and how it looks in the actual space, with no more than a couple of options and a clear way to say yes. Here is how to build that presentation, and how to do it in vPlan AR.
- How to Generate a Repair Cost Estimate from a Floor Plan ScanTurn a LiDAR scan into a material takeoff and a line-item cost estimate. Tag the affected materials, apply your own unit prices, and export to PDF or CSV.
- How to Sketch and Document a Ceiling Water Damage ClaimA ceiling stain is rarely just a ceiling. Here is how to trace the source, measure what the repair really covers, record the damage room by room and hand over a scope the carrier can follow.
