Existing-Conditions Floor Plans for Architects and Designers
vPlan AR gives architects and interior designers a fast existing-conditions measure-up: scan each room with an iPhone Pro or iPad Pro, refine the plan in the browser editor, and hand off a layered DXF for CAD, a 3D model (GLB, USDZ or OBJ) or an IFC model for BIM, or a dimensioned PDF for the client.
Why architects and interior designers switch to LiDAR floor plans
Measure-ups eat billable hours
Tape-and-sketch site visits followed by redrawing in CAD can take longer than the design work on a small renovation. A room scan takes one to two minutes and arrives already dimensioned.
Missing dimensions mean return trips
A forgotten window sill or closet depth sends someone back to site. A scan captures every wall and opening in the room, not just the ones you remembered to measure.
Clients can’t read your sketch
Early conversations go faster with a clean plan and a 3D view the client can understand, rather than a notebook sketch.
How it works
Scan existing conditions
Walk each room with a LiDAR iPhone or iPad Pro. Walls, doors, windows and openings are detected as you go, and multi-level homes are captured level by level.
Refine in the browser
Open the project in the web editor to correct walls, label rooms, add dimensions and architectural symbols, or trace over an existing drawing imported as a background image.
Hand off to CAD and 3D
Export a DXF with walls, doors, windows, wall openings, stairs, floor openings (open to below), dimensions and annotations on separate layers, a 3D model to start massing or visualization, or (Business) an IFC model for Revit or ArchiCAD.
Present to the client
Share a view-only link or a true-scale PDF plan set with a 3D cover sheet, and use the furniture library for quick layout options without changing the measured plan.
What you can deliver
Layered DXF
Pro+Existing-conditions plan at real size with editable dimensions, ready for AutoCAD, DraftSight and other CAD tools; one level, or every level in one file, stacked or side by side.
3D and BIM models
Pro+The scanned rooms as a 3D model (GLB, USDZ or OBJ) for visualization, or as IFC4 (Business) with storeys, walls, doors, windows, slabs and spaces for Revit and ArchiCAD.
Architectural PDF plan set
Pro+True-scale sheets at 1/4" = 1'-0" or 1:50 with the Architect title block, door and window marks, room, door and window schedules, every level in one set, a 3D cover sheet and overlay sheets.
Shared plan link
Pro+A view-only plan page with dimensions and photos that clients and consultants open in any browser.
Which plan do architects and interior designers need?
Sole practitioners and designers typically choose Pro ($19/month) for unlimited projects plus DXF and 3D model export. Studios that share projects across a team, or want IFC, XML and custom branding, choose Business ($39/month). Compare plans.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a LiDAR scan for an existing-conditions survey?
For most residential renovation and interior projects, yes. vPlan AR room scans are typically accurate within 1–2 cm per room dimension, which suits measure-ups, space planning and schematic design. Verify critical dimensions with a laser measure, and use a licensed surveyor for boundary, structural or legal surveys.
Can I import a vPlan AR scan into AutoCAD or Revit?
Export the plan as DXF, which AutoCAD and most CAD tools open directly and which can be linked or imported into Revit as a 2D underlay. Walls, doors, windows, wall openings, stairs, floor openings (open to below), dimensions and annotations sit on separate layers. For a BIM model, Business exports IFC4, which Revit opens with walls, doors, windows, floor slabs and rooms; for 3D work, export GLB or OBJ.
Does the scan capture ceiling heights?
Each level stores a ceiling height that you can confirm or edit in the editor. For rooms with sloped or very tall ceilings, check the value on site and adjust it, since LiDAR range on iPhone and iPad is roughly 15 feet.
Can I draw a plan without scanning?
Yes. The web editor works in any modern browser, so you can draw walls and rooms manually or trace over an imported image of an existing drawing — no LiDAR device required.
