How do I make a floor plan with my iPhone?
Install vPlan AR from the App Store on an iPhone 12 Pro or newer Pro model, tap Scan, and walk slowly around each room pointing the camera at the walls. Walls, doors and windows are detected in real time; tap Finish Scan and vPlan AR generates a dimensioned floor plan you can edit and export. A typical room takes one to two minutes.
Which iPhones and iPads can scan rooms with LiDAR?
LiDAR scanning works on every Pro iPhone from the iPhone 12 Pro through the iPhone 18 Pro (including Pro Max models), plus iPad Pro from 2020 onward, running iOS 16 or later. Standard (non-Pro) iPhones don’t have a LiDAR sensor, but you can still draw floor plans in the web editor.
How accurate is LiDAR floor plan scanning?
vPlan AR scans are typically accurate within 1–2 cm (under an inch) per room dimension. Accuracy depends on scanning slowly, capturing every corner and doorway, and avoiding mirrors and glass; any wall can be corrected in the editor afterwards.
Can I create a floor plan without a LiDAR device?
Yes. The vPlan AR web editor runs in any modern browser, so you can draw walls, rooms, doors and windows manually, trace over an image of an existing plan, view it in 3D, and export it — no phone or LiDAR sensor required.
What file formats does vPlan AR export?
vPlan AR exports true-scale PDF plans on every plan (one level with a watermark on Free), also as SVG or PNG sheets. Pro and Business add DXF for AutoCAD and other CAD tools (real size, AIA layers, every level in one file), 3D models as GLB, USDZ (AR Quick Look) or OBJ, and room, door and window schedules as Excel or CSV. Business adds IFC4 for Revit and ArchiCAD and structured XML. Pro PDF plan sets cover every level and can add a 3D cover sheet, room, door and window schedules and level overlays. Pro and Business also export damage & scope reports, repair cost estimates (PDF or CSV) and square-footage reports.
