What LiDAR-compatible iPhones are supported?
All iPhone models with a LiDAR sensor are supported: iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro / Pro Max, iPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max, and iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max. iPad Pro (2020 and later) also has LiDAR and is fully supported. Standard (non-Pro) iPhone models — including iPhone Air and iPhone Duo — do not have LiDAR and cannot use the AR scanning feature. See the full list: vplan.ai/blog/which-iphones-have-lidar.
How do I get the most accurate scan results?
For best results: scan in a well-lit room (LiDAR works in the dark, but camera texture improves room recognition); move slowly and keep the device at chest height; walk the perimeter of the room before scanning the center; avoid highly reflective surfaces like mirrors and glass — cover them with paper if possible; and make sure to capture corners and doorways by pausing briefly on each one. Scanning a typical room takes 60–90 seconds.
Why does my scan show missing walls?
Missing walls are usually caused by moving too quickly past a section, standing too close to the wall (within 1.5 ft), or highly reflective surfaces that confuse the depth sensor. Re-scan the problem area by tapping "Continue Scan" and moving slowly along the missing wall. You can also add or correct walls manually in the editor after the scan completes.
What is the maximum room size I can scan?
vPlan AR can accurately scan rooms up to approximately 5,000 sq ft in a single session. For larger spaces, scan in sections and pause at shared doorways so rooms connect cleanly; you can also add or correct walls in the editor afterward. The LiDAR sensor has a reliable range of up to 15 feet, so very long corridors may require multiple passes from different positions.
Can I scan multiple floors in one session?
Yes. When you finish scanning one level, tap "Add Another Level" after the scan completes. You can specify the ceiling height detected, confirm or adjust it, then start a new scan for the next floor. The app tracks each level's elevation automatically. When all floors are done, tap "Done" to generate the complete multi-level floor plan.
How do the levels of a multi-level scan line up?
Each floor is scanned separately, so the phone starts every level facing a different way. vPlan AR lines the levels up by matching the outside walls that stack from one floor to the next, the way a framer stacks them. Walls that carry through both floors and stairs help it pick the right fit, and it handles a smaller upper floor or a garage that is only on the lower level. If a level matches poorly, it is left where it was rather than guessed. In the web editor, click "Align levels" in the Levels tab to run it again after you edit a level; each level shows how well it matched, and "Reset alignment" in the level's menu undoes it. To line a level up yourself, choose "Align by hand" in its menu (or the link offered after a poor match): click a corner of the level, then the same corner on the shaded level below it (above it, for a basement), and repeat with a second corner to turn it as well. Arrow buttons nudge it, and Done applies it. "Snap walls" in the Levels tab then moves the level's outside walls up to 15 cm (6 in) so their outer faces sit on the outside walls below; Undo puts them back. The editor underlay, the 3D view and the plan set's overlay sheets all use the same alignment.
